Jeff Dahl Returns to the Continental U.S.
Friday April 15th, punk rock legend Jeff Dahl and his Phoenix based band played their first show in over 3 years. The show featured Labor Party (featuring Dahl guitarist Frank Labor) and Bitter Allegiance (founded by Jeff Dahl drummer Russ Covner, who was celebrating his birthday that night). The Jeff Dahl Band went through a short set of classic Dahl tunes including "Lisa's World" and "I'm In Love With the GTOs". Former Slash City Daggers' singer Abe Ruthless joined Jeff for their rendition of The Dead Boys' "Sonic Reducer" while Jamie Monistat from Blanche Davidian sang Alice Cooper's "Eighteen" with the band. The entire night was filled with whiskey-drenched rock'n'roll and became a reunion of sorts for a trash rock scene in Phoenix that has seen better days.
Below is a cell phone video I shot of Jamie Monistat with the Jeff Dahl band. As Jeff noted, he and Jamie were from the same neighborhood in Hawaii but hadn't met until meeting in the Phoenix music scene. With Jeff calling Hawaii his home again, it indeed feel like Hawaii came to AZ.
