FREE MP3 ALERT: Digital Leather "Photo Lie"

Pitchfork Media is doing you and I a swell service by hosting a free download from synthpunk gods Digital Leather. So I guess it's official: Digital Leather no longer calls Arizona home. But that is okay. ANTI-SNOB.com considers Shawn Foree and DL one of Arizona's greatest exports, even if that export is somewhere in Nebraska. There may not be ska in Nebraska, but there is definitely synthpunk. Maybe we should call the state Nebrasynth.

This link will take you directly to the Pitchfork Media page where they are offering a download of "Photo Lie" from the upcoming album Warm Brother to be released by Fat Possum on 09/29/09 (I though Fat Possum was a label that only released music by old bluesmen). The album can be pre-ordered through Amazon.com on both vinyl and CD.

I saw Digital Leather perform at Yucca Tap Room in Tempe a few months back and it was the best I have seen them since the time they played one of my weekly Gimme Danger shows back in 2005 at Hollywood Alley. Back in '05, Foree led a six member powerhouse featuring Tokyo Electron members Ryan Rousseau on drums and Stevie Sleaze on guitar. Ryan's brother Rusty and Jason Puffer were doubling on synths while Shawn was free to do vocals only. The new quartet Foree has been showcasing features a heavier rock core, with Foree handling all synths on stage along with lead vocal duties while Johnny, Austin, and Jeff back Shawn up with a raw guitar-bass-drum attack. Songs like "Styrofoam" never sounded better. What I learned after all these years being a Digital Leather fan is Shawn Foree never intended Digital Leather's live sound to mimic the magic he does in the studio. To put it best, I will quote Foree direct from his It's A Digital World blog; "the live Digital Leather sound is ugly and raw like a porkchop sitting out in the sun crawling with maggots. but still, you are starving to death. so you eat it. mmmm. pretty good!"

Digital Leather will be bringing back the stale maggot infested porkchop to the Tempe area in late October, venue TBA.
