You Know Times Have Changed When The New Adult Character on Sesame Street Has A Nose Ring

Pictured here with a stud piercing, Nitya Vidyasaga who plays Leela, showcases a looped nose ring. It's more of a statement of Indian culture rather than an alternative fashion statement, as Nitya was born in India and came to America to learn acting at New York University. As a fan of face and body piercings...and a parent of a five year old, this was interesting to see. It's just not something you would see 25-30 years ago when most of us were watching Sesame Street.

Watching muppets getting hormonally excited over Heidi Klum was also something I don't remember seeing as a kid. This particular episode was brought to us by the letter "O" which featured a music video of different styles of the letter, ending with a long shot of a light blue "O" that very reminiscent of "Circle One". During the Leela skit, Cookie Monster confused a muppet in the shape of the letter "O" with googly eyes as a cookie and wanted to eat it. He chased the letter and yelled "Come to Papa". Wow, Sesame Street has changed.
