ROTW: Jack O. & the Tennessee Tearjerkers - The Disco Outlaw

JACK O. & THE TENNESSEE TEARJERKERS - DISCO OUTLAW (Goner)
Jack Oblivian leads a gritty blues-rock ensemble that channels the rock'n'roll spirit of everyone from the New York Dolls to Chuck E. Weiss. Performed with maximum intensity, Disco Outlaw is 12 songs that are never "overdone" and barely cliché, which is a refreshing change compared to other artists walking down the retroactive past.
Like fellow Memphis resident Jay Reatard, Jack O has found a humble maturation point that doesn't threaten to alienate hardcore fans from his days in The Oblivians. That statement holds true even if you think songs like "Walk of Shame" or "Sweet Thang" sound like studio outtakes from either a late 70s Tom Petty or Springsteen album, or even better a b-side from a Graham Parker single.
Disco Outlaw is a solid, surprising, and refreshing effort.
