ANTI-SNOB RADAR: Indie Rock News From Around The World (05/07/09)

  • This first item brings me back to the days in which my friend and former neighbor/landlord/internet radio mentor Heathen World John would make me mix CDs of Turkish and Swedish garage bands from the 60s, along with other exotic and international goodies. Dengue Fever is a Cambodian rock band from Los Angeles who perform a 60s/70s style of their home country's music. They, along with their label M80, have released a documentary called Sleepwalking Through The Mekong about their journey through Cambodia in 2005. The DVD comes with a CD and is available through Amazon and Insound. Insound also has a free mp3 for you to enjoy titled "March of the Balloon Animals".

  • The new Manic Street Preachers album, Journal For Plague Lovers, is now available for pre-order. Due to be released in the UK on May 18th and on May 19th in the U.S., Journal... will feature production credits by Steve Albini and lyrical credit by the late Richey James Edwards (the first album to do so since The Holy Bible in 1994). British Sea Power and The Horrors have been enlisted to remix tracks for post releases. UK per-order can be made on the HMV website while US pre-orders can be made at Amazon.

  • When I saw the latest press release from T.S.O.L. late yesterday afternoon, I realized that yes, ANTI-SNOB.com was one of those who "asked for it" (read our T.S.O.L. review here: http://anti-snob.com/2009/01/15/review-the-soundtrack-of-our-lives.aspx). Coming in mid-September will be the limited colored vinyl release of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Free Downloads. It will be released by DC-JAM Records. No details on colors of vinyl or price at this time.

  • The Lustkillers have been enjoying a successful tour of Europe thus far. The are finishing the tour this week out in Spain, closing out at the Gruta77 in Madrid Sunday May 10th. After returning home they will prepare for their west coast tour in June including atleast 3 AZ stops (Jugheads, Kactus Kates, and Hollywood Alley).

  • Following the footsteps on Nine Inch Nails, Placebo is allowing fans to re-mix their new single "Battle For The Sun" with the GoMix app on the band's myspace page

  • File this under "Are They Really Still Playing?" because I personally had no idea. The Angry Samoans at The Juke Joint in Anaheim Friday May 8th.

  • Members of The Half Empties and The Lucky Stiffs have formed a power-poppish punk rock band in San Francisco called Radio Crimes. A debut 10" will be released by May Cause Dizziness Records in the near future. Pre-orders are being accepted now.

  • A Black Lips/Wu-Tang collaboration? Yes, see for yourself: http://www.viceland.com/vicerecords/wordpress/?p=608

  • Killradio reunion show in July? Out of all the Warped Tour bands from 5 years ago, this was one of the ones I liked the best. Great to see them back. http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=564935&blogID=486905527
