My Latest Concoction
I have this talent of gathering up a few of the bar's overtocked and barely used items and fuse them together to create some fancy new drink or shot. Liquor distributors like to push and offer major discounts on new products. Sometimes they will just offer a free bottle of one thing if you order a case of something else. At Hollywood Alley we have FIVE bottles of Margaritaville Passion Fruit flavored tequila. We can't give that crap away.
I noticed that we have had a bottle of vanilla schnapps for quite awhile. No one drinks it straight, so they only thing this is good for is to save costs and sweeten up any shot that requires vanilla vodka as one of it's many ingredients. It can be a great substitute that allows you to save the Stoli brand for the vanilla cokes and chicky martinis.
We have also been getting a truckload of cherry flavored vodka in of all different brands. I chose the UV brand for this recipe, not for the quality of vodka or it's gimicky nature, but because it has the color which enables me to not use grenadine for color and unneeded sugar.
We also have a bottle of Three Olives chocolate. This is the only brand of Three Olives we have a hard time selling. It's not like we aren't creative. Fellow barkeep Eric and myself are always thinking of new concoctions and offering samples to our favorite regulars. However, on weekends, we are a high volume rock'n'roll club in the hot east valley portion of metro Phoenix. We need this shit to sell itself. Cherry sells, grape sells big time, people ask for watermelon and pomegranate everytime we happen to be out. But no one cares for chocolate.
So here it is. My latest shot recipe...and my latest inventory killer.
THE CORDIAL CHERRY (3 shot batch):
1 oz. Three Olives chocolate flavored vodka
1 oz. UV cherry flavored vodka
1 oz. Dr. McGillicuddy's vanilla schnapps
1 oz. of milk
pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice.
shake it up
strain and pour into three small rocks glasses
enjoy
I have sold about a dozen of these this past weekend and the verdict is in. It REALLY does taste like a cordial cherry.
